The ceremony on the 11th September was  secular (non-denominational) remembrance of those lost in the WTC attack and of Bali's bombings.

Shortly before 3pm, 50 dancers performed a modern Balinese dance and a Chinese Dragon ensured give a vibrant start to the Karnival.

At 3pm, Bapak Pitana gave a short introductory speech before introducing Bapak Made Mangku Pastika, Bali's most well known policeman and leader of the investigation into the 12th October bombings.

A minutes silence was observed as we remembered those killed and injured in both disasters and for their families and friends.

A Kuta Karnival banner was lofted into the sky by a host of balloons and dozens of baby turtles were released into the ocean.

Then all participants walked to the beach at 6x6 Club, Blue Ocean and cleaned as they went!

September 11th will always be remembered as an example of Man's ability to inflict untold suffering upon his brethren. The Balinese share a new sympathy with New Yorkers; a bond born of the similarity and nature of both attacks. Our tragedy in Bali was exactly 13 months after that in New York and we remember the dead, injured and bereaved of September 11th.
